We are seeking a PharmD or PhD-trained individual with experience in scientific communications, in either pharmaceutical industry or with a medical/scientific communications agency. The individual will strengthen the medical and scientific communications function across the SERB portfolio in the US and internationally by ensuring SERB has a robust and comprehensive scientific communications platform to support all key brands as well as an integrated publication strategy developed in collaboration with Medical Affairs Strategy leads for each therapeutic area. The role is a key member of the Global Medical Affairs team and will support stakeholders both internally and externally. The Director of Scientific Communications ensures that medical and scientific communications deliverables are achieved through cross-functional team leadership and provides timely and appropriate communication of published data to customer-facing teams.
As Director, Scientific Communications, your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the development of a cohesive scientific communications platform for the critical brands (global and regional) in SERB to align on data dissemination, scientific narratives, and stakeholder engagement. The expected output is for each key brand to have a clear & consistent core scientific message, claims & data pillars.
- Lead and deliver an integrated scientific publication strategy from conception to publication (abstracts, presentations, posters, etc.) for all key brands in US and EU to ensure consistency, quality, and strategic impact across the product lifecycle.
- Ensure the publications strategy and plans are in alignment with global and regional medical strategy and developed in collaboration with Medical Affairs leads and Clinical Development team where appropriate.
- Utilize strong knowledge of the therapeutic landscape and SERB products / assets to generate congress communications strategy, which may include data presented at congress symposia, plenary sessions in support of study investigators, and presentations of congress abstracts and posters.
- Support advisory boards, expert panel meetings, development and approval of external presentations (e.g. congress symposia), scientific education materials and other relevant external scientific communication needs to ensure aligned key scientific communication messages.
- Support the development of relevant press releases that relate to scientific initiatives, data generation or data dissemination, or scientific collaborations.
- Support the internal dissemination of published scientific data (relating to SERB products or competitor data) to internal medical teams.
- Manage agencies involved in all aspects of publications and scientific communication materials and planning to ensure on-time deliverables.
- Develop project timelines and drive the process for on-time delivery of drafts and final deliverables.
- Prioritize and plan work activities and resources, appropriately manage allocated budget, while executing multiple scientific communication projects.
- Understand, apply, and comply with publication-related guidelines for authorship and good publication practices (GPP3, ICMJE), and ensure publication activities are within company policies, procedures, and industry standards.
- Establish and maintain up-to-date internal SOPs, Work Instructions, and job aids/guidelines within the area of responsibility.
- Conduct compliant and transparent data generation, publication, and dissemination. Utilize appropriate tools to document project status, drafts, author comments/approvals, and reviews/signoffs. Maintain records for compliance and auditing according to SOPs.
- Set goals and objectives and work both independently and within multi-disciplinary teams to execute global scientific communication strategy and tactics and deliver high-quality scientific publications.

To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate:
- Advanced degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent experience required. Doctorate level degree (i.e., PharmD or PhD) is preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in a pharmaceutical industry-related medical affairs role, with at least 3 years in a scientific/medical communications role
- Experience in oncology and/or rare disease preferred
- Strong strategic thinking and project management skills
- Ability to critically appraise and apply knowledge gained from medical/scientific literature.
- Take initiative, communicate clearly, and work collaboratively in a dynamic, virtual environment in the US and Internationally.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective professional communications, aiming to cultivate strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, i.e., KOLs.
- Ability to initiate and lead projects with adherence to timelines and budget.
- Strong knowledge of publications compliance and guidelines/practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage vendors, budgets and cross-functional projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to distill complex scientific information for diverse audiences
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Travel within the US and internationally may be necessary (<20% travel expected)
