Broad Overview
Director of Reimbursement, Payer and Patient Services is responsible for leading all commercial and government payer, reimbursement, and patient access activities across SERB’s specialty, rare disease, and
oncology portfolio. Leads payer-facing strategy and execution with CMS, State and Managed Medicaid, commercial insurance providers, Medicare contractors, specialty pharmacies, and other key channel stakeholders to ensure optimal patient access, reimbursement, and sustainable product performance. Responsible for aspects of contracted HUB operations and integration and will build and lead field reimbursement organization.
The Director serves as a strategic leader and internal subject matter expert for payer policy, contracting, reimbursement, and access models, partnering closely with Marketing, HEOR, Medical Affairs, Finance, Sales, Legal, and external stakeholders. This role drives pull-through initiatives, identifies growth opportunities, mitigates access risk, and ensures alignment between brand strategy and payer execution. This position will facilitate access and reimbursement for products and ensure coordinated/targeted pull-through with Sales & Strategic Accounts. The Director of Payer Access will maintain a high level of collaboration and integration with Sales, Strategic Accounts, Clinical Operations & Development, Medical Affairs, Legal, Compliance, Training, Finance, and Senior Leadership.
This role will report to the Sr. Director of Government Accounts, Payer Access and Reimbursement Support.
As Director of Reimbursement, Payer & Patient Services, your responsibilities will include:
Reimbursement Strategy & Provider Support
• Leads development and optimization of reimbursement tools (billing guides, coding support, claims assistance, site-of-care optimization).
• Educates providers and HCDMs on NTAP, outlier payments, DRGs, and oncology/rare disease reimbursement pathways.
• Oversee chargemaster optimization and partners with billing teams on accurate CPT, HCPCS, J-, C-, Q-codes, and NDC usage.
• Serves as escalation point for complex reimbursement issues, denied claims, and appeals across inpatient, outpatient, and specialty pharmacy settings.
• Monitors reimbursement and policy trends to refine coding guidance and provider education.
HUB & Specialty Pharmacy Operations
• Oversee key HUB and specialty pharmacy operations, including enrollment, benefits investigation, prior authorizations, and pharmacy coordination.
• Ensures a seamless, compliant patient and provider experience supporting access and adherence.
• Partners cross-functionally and with vendors to optimize HUB performance, reporting, and launch readiness.
Field Reimbursement Leadership
• Builds and leads a national Field Reimbursement Manager team delivering front-line access and reimbursement support.
• Defines team structure, deployment, metrics, and training aligned to portfolio and launch needs.
• Aligns field reimbursement with sales, account management, and payer teams to drive pull-through and issue resolution.
Payer Strategy, Access & Reimbursement
• Develops and executes national commercial and government payer strategies for specialty, rare disease, and oncology products.
• Manages relationships with major commercial payers, PBMs, Medicaid GPOs, and Medicare Administrative Contractors.
• Leads access and reimbursement negotiations, including discounts, rebates, and value-based arrangements.
• Assesses payer landscape to identify access risks, opportunities, and emerging trends.
• Communicates clinical and economic value propositions to payer stakeholders.
New Product Launch
• Leads payer and reimbursement strategy for new product launches, including pre-launch planning and access readiness.
• Deploys launch infrastructure such as coding guidance, billing tools, HUB workflows, and field reimbursement support.
• Partners with Marketing, HEOR, and Medical Affairs to align value messaging and evidence strategy.
Cross-Functional Leadership
• Collaborates across Marketing, Sales, Medical, HEOR, Legal, Finance, and Compliance to support brand and lifecycle strategy.
• Serves as internal SME on reimbursement, payer policy, and market access trends.

To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate:
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience, with significant focus on specialty, rare disease, and/or oncology products.
• Demonstrated experience leading payer strategy, reimbursement execution, and provider support across commercial and government channels.
• Proven success supporting new product launches, including team build-out and access infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of payer dynamics, Medicare Parts B and D, Managed Medicaid, MAC processes, ASP pricing, NTAP, and oncology reimbursement models.
• Experience leading and developing field-based reimbursement or market access teams.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to travel up to 50%.
